Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to play?

There is no minimum age for our tournaments. All players must have an active DUPR account to participate. Age-based divisions use your current calendar year age:

  • 50+ Division: Players who turn 50 or older at any point in the current year.
  • 65+ Division: Players who turn 65 or older at any point in the current year.
How are skill levels and brackets organized?

Skill brackets use team average DUPR caps at the upper end of each bracket. For example, in a 3.0–3.5 bracket, your team's average DUPR must be 3.5 or below.

Fair play is non-negotiable. Players who intentionally misrepresent their skill level will be removed from the tournament and may be barred from future events. We use DUPR ratings to keep competition honest and give every team a fair chance to win.

How many matches is each team guaranteed?

Every entrant is scheduled to play at least 5 games total. Typical structure: 4 round-robin games + at least 1 playoff game.

  • Round-robin (pools of 5+ teams): Games to 11, win by 1.
  • Round-robin (pools of 4 or fewer): Games to 15, win by 1.
  • Playoff games: To 15, win by 2.
  • Medal matches (1st/2nd and 3rd/4th): Single game to 15, win by 2.
What does it cost and how do we register?

Players must register as a team — solo registrations are not accepted. Each player pays individually: $20 for Dill Dinkers members, $30 for visitors (non-members). A “member” is a current Dill Dinkers member at the time of registration. Register through the CourtReserve links on the schedule.

How do I find a partner?

Click “Need a Partner?” on any upcoming event in the schedule above to post that you’re looking. Other players browsing the same bracket can see your name and reach out to you directly via email. You can also search the Link & Dink Hub to browse players at your skill level and location.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

There are no refunds. If you email at least 72 hours before event start, you'll receive a credit for a future event at that location. Email rockville@dilldinkers.com (Rockville) or northbethesda@dilldinkers.com (North Bethesda) to request a credit.

Can I play up a division?

Yes. You can enter a higher bracket as long as your team average DUPR stays below the cap for that bracket. For example, in a 3.0–3.5 bracket, your team average DUPR must be 3.5 or below.

What if my partner drops out?

You’re responsible for finding a replacement whose DUPR fits the bracket cap. Head to the Link & Dink Hub to find available players at your skill level. If you can’t find a replacement, email us at least 72 hours before the event for a credit toward a future tournament.

What if we're late or don't show up?

Teams that are 15 minutes late forfeit the first game. Each additional 15 minutes forfeits the next game. A full no-show is treated as forfeited games under the same rule.

What's the tournament format?

Round robin pools followed by a single-elimination playoff bracket. Format scales based on registration (4–24 teams). Every team gets competitive play regardless of bracket size.

What are the rules?

All tournaments follow USA official rules. Matches are self-officiated — players make their own calls with honesty and respect. When in doubt on line calls, give the benefit to your opponent.

What should I bring?

Paddle (plus a backup), comfortable court shoes, water bottle, snacks, and a positive attitude. Beer, seltzer, and wine are available for purchase at North Bethesda.

Where do I park?

North Bethesda: First come, first serve. All spaces in the complex are open.

Rockville: Use designated spots in front of Dill Dinkers. Do NOT park in front of Zava Zone. Additional parking is available down the hill in front of the airsoft arena.

What if a tournament is full?

If a bracket is sold out, check back — spots open when teams withdraw. You can also email Program Director Sam Morris at smorris@dilldinkers.com to be placed on a waitlist. Waitlisted teams are contacted in order as spots become available.

What happens if there’s severe weather or an emergency?

All Link & Dink tournaments are held on indoor courts, so weather rarely affects play. In the unlikely event of a facility closure or emergency cancellation, all registered teams will receive a full credit for a future event. We’ll notify all participants via email as soon as possible.

Will I get a reminder before the tournament?

Yes! You’ll receive a confirmation email the day before your tournament with check-in time, court assignments, and any last-minute updates. Make sure the email on your CourtReserve account is up to date.

What makes Link & Dink tournaments different?

We're community-first. Every opponent is a potential future partner. We emphasize connection over pure competition, growth over glory, and positive sportsmanship. After each match, we encourage exchanging contact info and connecting on the Link & Dink platform to keep playing together.

Who do I contact with questions?

Before the event: For questions, changes, or concerns before the start of the event, email Program Director Sam Morris at smorris@dilldinkers.com.

Day-of questions: On tournament day, questions about schedule, courts, disputes, or logistics should be directed to the staff member on site.

Where are the tournaments held?

Tournament location is listed on each event’s registration page. Events are typically hosted at Dill Dinkers Rockville or Dill Dinkers North Bethesda.

What are the court, food, and parking details?

All tournaments are played on indoor, dedicated courts. Players may bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. At Dill Dinkers North Bethesda, beer, seltzer, and wine are available for purchase at the front desk.

Parking — North Bethesda: First come, first serve. All spaces in the complex are open for tournament players and spectators.

Parking — Rockville: Use designated spots in front of Dill Dinkers. Do NOT park in front of Zava Zone. Additional parking is available down the hill in front of the airsoft arena.

How can I support our sponsors?

Our tournaments are made possible in part by our community sponsors — JOOLA! Please take a moment during the event to visit sponsor tables, learn about their services, and thank them for supporting local play. If you’re interested in sponsoring a future tournament, contact the tournament director or facility for current opportunities.
